A downloadable tape

did you know: MONDO ROFLS is italian for WORLD OF ROFLS! in this ongoing audio zine series,  each tape is loosely thematic, and composed out of scavenged footage (personal and impersonal) and some bits of music (original and appropriated). the physical tapes are not available online, but digital versions are available below -- try one today! if you hate it, you're welcome to erase it, replace the footage with something you find more pleasurable, and send it right back where it came from.

Feat. Deerhoof, Daffy Duck, the Great Will of the Macrocosm, the Arrogant Sons of Bitches, a xerox machine, a durian fruit, the cataclysmic disco event of the century, Cecil Baldwin, Freddie Mercury, Taco Bell, and a number of anonymous participants across time and space.

The text in Lost City/Effloretron comes from two places: the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer, and Samuel Delany's Dhalgren. I highly recommend reading both of these, if you haven't.

"Free of name and purpose, what do I gain? I have logic and laughter, but can trust neither my eyes nor my hands. The tenebrous city, city without time, the generous, saphrophytic city: it is morning and I miss the clear night [...]"

"Vaguely, from some far-off place, I realized that the words on the wall were being infused with sound as well, but that I had not had the capacity to hear it before. The vibration had a texture and a weight, and with it came a burning smell, as of late fall leaves or like some vast and distant engine close to overheating. The taste on my tongue was like brine set ablaze."

Much of the spoken material in Lost City comes from Nelson Sullivan's videos of NYC Pride 1983; you can find those on Youtube. The backing track for Effloretron is Loose Joints' "Is It All Over My Face".

Now Is Not The Time For Knowing was recorded at Lupinewood in summer 2017.
